Pavlova – LADL Flowchart Recipe

Origin: New Zealand (Australians might argue with me…)

About: Pavlova similar to eating a a fresh marshmallow with whipped cream and fruit. The meringue-like crust commonly is paired with fruits, such as the passion fruit and Chinese gooseberry (kiwifruit).

Australia and New Zealand have long been at battle over who invented the dessert. Historians do agree that the dessert is names after Anna Matveyevan Pavlova, a Russian prima ballerina. She toured Australia and New Zealand in 1926. The first Australian recipe was not published until 1935. However, in the biography titled Anna Pavlova: Her Life and Art (published 1982) states that during Pavlova’s tour of New Zealand in 1926, a chef at a hotel in Wellington, New Zealand invented a dessert for her.

In 2010, the Oxford English Dictionary (ODE) ruled that New Zealand created Pavlova. This ruling has heavy weight because of the ODE mission to trace the first known use of every sense of every word in the English language.
