Braised eggs with lamb, tahini & sumac – LADL Flowchart Recipe

Origin: Palestine

About: This dish is from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tammi’s Jerusalem cookbook. Having been inspired by Hamshuka, which is a hummus and lamb concoction, this modern recipe includes bolder favors from tahini sauce and sumac. The eggs and tomato’s are initially the main ingredients of similar popular breakfast dish called Shashuka, which might have led to this ingredient combination.

This dish is a favorite of mine. I keep most of the ingredients on hand just in case I need a delicious dinner that also impresses.

Additions & Substitutions:

  • Roasted eggplant
  • Red pepper strips
  • Swiss chard
  • Cooked chickpeas
  • Chopped almonds
  • Za’atar
